Rabbi Avraham Kohan received his Semicha from Rabbi Isaac Elchonon Theological Seminary, learning in the Kollel of HaRav Hershel Schachter.
Rabbi Kohan’s involvement with the Great Neck community began in 1991, when he began organizing lectures, Shabbatonim, and many outreach and educational activities. In 1994, Rabbi Kohan opened the doors of Torah Ohr, meeting on Shabbat in a small restaurant on Middle Neck Road. In 2001, Torah Ohr moved to its current location at 575 Middle Neck Road in Great Neck. From the early morning hours to late at night, Torah Ohr is the home of numerous Jewish educational activities, Torah classes from beginner to advanced, complete with a Bet Midrash and Bet Kenesset to serve all members of the Great Neck Jewish community.
