Rabbi Avraham Kohan received his Semicha from Rabbi Isaac Elchonon Theological Seminary, learning in the Kollel of HaRav Hershel Schachter.
Rabbi Kohan’s involvement with the Great Neck community began in 1991, when he began organizing lectures, Shabbatonim, and many outreach and educational activities. In 1994, Rabbi Kohan opened the doors of Torah Ohr, meeting on Shabbat in a small restaurant on Middle Neck Road. In 2001, Torah Ohr moved to its current location at 575 Middle Neck Road in Great Neck. From the early morning hours to late at night, Torah Ohr is the home of numerous Jewish educational activities, Torah classes from beginner to advanced, complete with a Bet Midrash and Bet Kenesset to serve all members of the Great Neck Jewish community.
Rabbi Eli Livian was raised in Great Neck, NY and is married and blessed with two girls. He spent three years learning in Eretz Yisrael under Rav Yitzchak Berkovitz in the Jerusalem Kollel where he received Semicha in Issur V’Heter (Kashrut), Hilchot Shabbat and Hilchot Niddah while also being trained in youth and community affairs at Ner L’Elef . Rabbi Livian taught one year in Yeshivat Netiv Aryeh right across from the Kotel.Rabbi Livian joined Torah Ohr’s staff in 2015 as the Rabbi of the Teen Minyan and a Youth Director.
Mrs. Amit Yaghoubi is a popular teacher of varied subjects. She lectures extensively in Great Neck and surrounding communities. Developing exciting and fresh ways of transmitting our ancient heritage, Mrs. Yaghoubi enthralls her students, who range from elementary school through adult education. Mrs. Yaghoubi has a unique way of taking vital, pertinent issues and fusing them with classic Torah hashkafa, contemporary ideas, and psychology, to produce a down to earth, focused, and realistic approach to the challenges that we face today.
